Bristol man jailed for abandoning dog in flat
A man from Bristol has been sentenced after his dog was found dead in his flat in Bishopsworth.
Gregory Jackson left his Staffordshire bull terrier, Blue, in his home for three weeks in February without food or water.
He was sentenced in his absence at Bristol Magistrates Court yesterday.
He was given 26 weeks in prison, a lifetime ban from owning animals and ordered to pay £500 costs to the court.
“It’s an extremely upsetting case,” says RSPCA Inspector Kim Walter, “it could have been so easily prevented, Blue didn’t need to suffer.”
PC Brett Worthington from Avon and Somerset Police said, “we are very happy with today’s sentencing. Keeping animals is a responsibility that everyone must take seriously. Ensuring the welfare of an animal is not only good practice, it’s the law.”
