Bristol ARC to create new adoption centre

By Lowie Trevena  Wednesday Jan 27, 2021

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home have granted Bristol Animal Rescue Centre (ARC) funds to rehome more animals each year.

The grant from the London-based charity will help Bristol ARC to create a new adoption centre.

The Bristol rehoming centre, which is located on Albert Road near Motion, is more than 130 years old, having been founded in 1887.

“We currently have to use one of the oldest parts of our building to carry out our meet and greet with animals and potential adopters, and to complete the adoptions,” says Jodie Hayward, animal home manager at the centre.

“This grant from Battersea enables us to convert the ground floor of our admin building and use this great space for our rehoming activities.”

This will allow Bristol ARC to offer more adoption appointments and ensure the process is less stressful for animals, including dogs, cats and small animals like rabbits and ferrets.

Battersea Grants is an initiative launched in 2019 that aims to support smaller rescues and shelters by offering grants of between £3,000 and £15,000.

“We hope that this grant will help make a real difference to the lives of animals” says Margaret Hulme, grants manager at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

“At Battersea we want to support rescues and shelters, not only by awarding funding, but also by sharing the experiences and knowledge we have gained as an animal welfare charity that has been rescuing and rehoming animals for 160 years.”
