Bristol Academy face Frankfurt in last 8

Bristol Academy will face German side Frankfurt in the quarter finals of the women’s Uefa Champions League.

The winners will face Denmark’s Brondby or Swedish side Linkopings, who reached the quarter-finals three years ago and knocked out Liverpool this season.

Bristol made it through to today’s unseeded draw in Nyon, after they defied the odds to dump European giants Barcelona out of the women’s Uefa Champions League last week.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg in Spain, Bristol drew 1-1 at Ashton Gate to secure their progress to the quarter finals for the first time in their history.

Frankfurt are three times winners of the competition, in 2002, 2006 and 2008. The first leg of the quarter final is in Germany on March 21/22, with the return at Ashton Gate on March 28/29.
