Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2025, day 15: Square Food Foundation
Square Food Foundation works to reduce hunger and food insecurity, harnessing community and education to bring people together through healthy food and cookery.
For the last 25 years, Square Food has been teaching cooking to people of all ages and abilities, helping everyone to gain easier access to good quality, healthy food.
Their classes are open to a wide range of people, supporting older people, those with learning disabilities, mental health issues or struggling with loneliness and more.

They also work with primary school children, families accessing food banks, younger people who may not be in the education system and training and mentoring teams.
The programmes are primarily free or heavily subsidised, as the team hope to make food and cookery as accessible as possible to large numbers of people.
The team also run a ‘How To Be A Chef’ programme, a 12-week cookery course for young adults between 16 and 25 years old.
The course is aimed to fully prepare young people for a career in the culinary industry.
One graduate from the How to Be A Chef programme, Sarah, said: “I thought it would be a good way to get some cooking skills and have a bit of fun.
“I never thought it would be a career; to get a career and a passion out of it is amazing.”
Square Food Foundation is committed to its mission to make eating, cooking and communities surrounding food accessible and affordable for everyone.
