A-Z Bristol Pub Crawl: The Turnpike, Soundwell
On a recent afternoon in the Turnpike, both the smell and sound of sizzling food filled the pub as a pair of plates were transported from the kitchen to a table of friends enjoying a late lunch.
“I’ll be back with the gammon and chips,” a member of staff told the friends.
It’s no coincidence that this generously proportioned pub in Soundwell is part of the Sizzling Pubs group, promising “great value, flavour-filled food”.
is needed now More than ever
Other Sizzling Pubs pubs across the Bristol area include the Yeoman in Whitchurch, the Blue Bowl in Hanham and the Lamb in Mangotsfield.
On this particular Thursday at the Turnpike, most of the tables had already been reserved for the evening’s pub quiz with the Devon Musketeers, the Gym Bunnies and the Four Skins among the teams.

Football and cricket matches were being broadcast on the multiple televisions, with fruit machines also dotted around the adjoining rooms.
For younger visitors, a machine dispenses mystery children’s toys contained within balls looked over by a puppet version of a moustachioed chef in branded Sizzling Pubs chef whites.
More sizzling came from across the room with the arrival of the gammon and chips. It was time to tuck in at the Turnpike.
