One of Bristol’s oldest pubs is for sale

By Martin Booth  Tuesday May 13, 2025

Located on the main road from Bristol to Gloucester, there is believed to have been an inn on the site of the Full Moon from as early as the 13th century.

The current buildings date from around 1695; with a meander down Moon Street providing the best vantage point of its oldest section.

The Full Moon today is better known as both a hostel and music venue, recently taking part in the Stokes Croft Block Party.

Now the Full Moon and its neighbouring Attic bar and club are for sale with an asking price of £3.2m.

In a brochure by estate agents Burston Cook, the Full Moon is described as a “legendary Bristol hostel, bar and live music venue with development potential”.

This potential is referring to the planning permission granted in 2012 for the demolition of the Attic and erection of two storey building with 15 serviced one-bedroom apartments in the roof.

The estate agents add that the Full Moon and Attic are “a multi-cultural, multi-venue hub that boasts a large courtyard, pub section, nightclub, hostel and two kitchens”.

“The hostel provides fantastic accommodation and the bar/nightclub is home to some great resident DJs as well as UK and international artists from the electronic and live music scene…

“The property and business are for sale as a going concern. The property is an established and renowned Bristol city centre venue that is a multi-faceted business.

“The revenue is derived from food and beverage, accommodation / hostel receipts and sundry income including admissions fees and concessions and other events.”
