Dareshack open new ‘coffee house concept’
There are coffees, cakes and pastries at the new Dareshack, which has opened in a former Chinese restaurant on Christmas Steps.
It’s a narrow space with foliage and scaffolding poles familiar touches from the original Dareshack on Wine Street, and with quite possibly the smallest back garden of any cafe in Bristol.
The house blend here is from Triple Co. coffee roasters in Montpelier, with coffee served in beautiful cups made by potter and former barista, Rebecca Finnerty.
But this is more than a simple cafe, according to Dareshack co-owner Adda Cohn, whose partner Gui Petrini spent several months building the new “coffee house concept” himself, with a percentage of coffee sales here going towards creative projects.
“We want to shout about the new creative projects that we are creating,” said Adda, who grew up in Brazil.
“Our tagline is ‘ideas powered by coffee’ so what we want is people to come here, drink good coffee, but also support our creative efforts.
“I think the difference between us and other places is what we do after. We reinvest in creativity, not just ours but we also support other creatives, in our space in Wine Street, by mentoring, anything we can do really.”

Although Dareshack has only just opened its doors to the public, Adda and Gui have been on Christmas Steps for some time during the build, and Adda said that the area is “incredible”
Adda added: “There is a real community here, one that I have never experienced before in Bristol.
“Everyone knows each other. Everyone supports each other. We have felt so welcomed.
“We all understand each other because we are all independent businesses and I think that is key to building something in an area. It feels right for us to be here.
“It’s hard work but we are excited to have this new model for us that we want to explore more.”
