Coffee and beer – a perfect combination

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Jul 4, 2017

If two drinks have seen a resurgence in Bristol in recent years, it’s coffee and beer. So calling your new shop and bar Coffee & Beer is a statement of intent from owner Dan Williams.

“I just love everything about coffee,” one customer says on Tuesday morning as Dan pours him a takeaway flat white.

His friend meanwhile is looking at the four shelves of beers in cans and bottles. “Oh mate, this is the end of me this is,” he exclaims.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Coffee & Beer on Cotham Hill has a simple set-up. On the coffee side of things, drinks can be enjoyed inside the former jewellers from four coffee suppliers, currently single origin roasts from Stokes Croft’s very own Triple Co, as well as Round Hill, Origin and Quarter Horse available either in espresso or filter options.

There are also coffee beans available to buy as well as pods from Colonna, and coffee paraphernalia such as filter papers and Aeropress machines.

Beer options in bottles and cans are admirably local, including from Good Chemistry, Moor and Wild Beer, with several brews from further afield such as the magnificent Magic Rock from Huddersfield and Siren from Berkshire.

Or you can choose to refill your own litre glass bottles from the selections on tap which currently includes selections from Bristol breweries Bristol Beer Factory, Lost & Grounded, Cocksure and Wiper & True, and a collaboration between London’s Brew By Numbers and the Stockholm Brewing Co.

“This is my dream set-up,” says Dan after serving another customer a takeaway coffee, with treats from Pearly King Cakes coming soon.

Coffee and beer is a dream combination at Coffee & Beer. The resurgence doesn’t look like ending anytime soon.
