Summer holiday family theatre: The Zoo That Comes To You

By Sarski Anderson  Monday Jul 7, 2025

To open the summer holidays, Bristol family theatre company Scarlet Oak has announced a new run of their popular and well-reviewed show The Zoo That Comes To You.

Aimed at 5-11-year-olds and their families, the production visits The Wardrobe Theatre on July 24-27, before continuing its 2025 UK tour of schools, art centres, libraries and church halls.

Featuring plenty of humour and impressive puppetry, the show – which has been called “a perfect balance of entertainment, education and beautiful design” – tells the story of two animal-loving custodians of a wildlife sanctuary.

The only trouble is – they are yet to have any visitors. And so the idea for bringing the animals out to meet their local community is born.

For Jasmine Orchard and Lucia d’Inverno, the co-founders and directors of Scarlet Oak, the show is an ideal jumping off point for introducing children to the importance of conservation.

“These chatty animals have a lot of stories to tell”, they say, “and want to inspire people of all ages to take action, because they know small actions can make a big difference in the world.”

The Zoo that Comes to You (age recommendation 5-11) is at The Wardrobe Theatre on July 24-27 at 11am and 2pm. Tickets are available at www.thewardrobetheatre.com. Follow @scarletoaktheatre for updates.
