Renowned Bristol club brand Nu:Motive celebrates its 10th anniversary this September at Clock Factory
One of Bristol’s prominent underground club brands – Nu:Motive – will celebrate its 10th anniversary this September with a special event at Clock Factory Bristol.
Founded in 2016 in Hereford by George Thoburn, the brand has grown into a recognised name within Bristol’s nightlife, hosting over 200 shows in the past decade across cities including Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Swansea and Exeter, with the large majority taking place in Bristol, the brand’s home for most of its journey. Nu:Motive has built a reputation for championing underground music without genre boundaries, covering drum and bass, jungle, grime, bassline, garage and dubstep.

What began as a small collective and a series of local club nights quickly evolved into takeovers and events across some of the country’s biggest venues. Over the years Nu:Motive has hosted shows at clubs including Motion, Thekla, Blue Mountain, Lakota, Basement 45, The Lanes, Lost Horizon, Loco Klub, Old Crown Courts, The Underground, Central Warehouse, and now Clock Factory.
Alongside building the brand, George has also become heavily involved across Bristol’s nightlife industry, working behind the scenes on countless shows over the years. His roles have included managing the diary and leading the charge at the legendary Motion, overseeing marketing at Old Crown Courts and now spearheading Clock Factory Bristol alongside artist management.

Reflecting on the milestone, George said:
“It’s hard to put into words what the last 10 years have meant. I feel so old. From hosting major labels to taking our residents to festivals overseas, the journey has been incredible. I started this at 17, not even old enough to attend my own events — and now it’s my entire career.”
Nu:Motive will mark the milestone on Friday 25 September at Clock Factory with a two-floor celebration of 130–170 BPM sounds. The night will feature a world-exclusive grime cypher from Sir Spyro and Plastician, joined by Footsie, Killa P and Mez + Special Guests. Upstairs will host another first-time pairing, with UK garage and house artists ODF and Sulphur (aka. Scruz) going back-to-back for the first time.
10 Years of Nu:Motive is at Clock Factory on September 25. For more information and tickets visit fatsoma.com
