Jarvis Cocker in Bristol Thunderbirds gig

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Oct 22, 2015

Jarvis Cocker is among an unlikely line-up at a one-off Colston Hall gig celebrating the music of Thunderbirds and other 60s children’s TV programmes.

The Pulp frontman and BBC Radio 6 DJ will join Adrian Utley of Portishead and Will Gregory of Goldfrapp in front of an orchestra bringing theme tunes to life for the 50th anniversary of Thunderbirds.

The gig, taking place on Tuesday, December 1, will be led by led by Charles Hazelwood and his All Star Collective, who played some of the work at The Park stage at Glastonbury earlier this year.

Members of the British Paraorchestra, the world’s only professional ensemble of disabled musicians, will also join the celebration on stage in the Colston Hall’s main auditorium.

As well as the Thunderbirds music, the concert will feature classics from Stingray and Captain Scarlett, all written by legendary British film & television composer Barry Gray, who died in 1984.

Hazlewood said the gig will showcase “high octane, big band-fuelled live renditions” from the various hit TV series.

He added: “Jarvis Cocker is the perfect partner in delivering the songs which lie at the heart of Gray’s creation: brilliant, stylish, edgy and ironic little tunes which, once lodged in your head, do not leave easily.”

Tickets are £20 from www.colstonhall.org
