Flashdance mob support St George’s fundraiser

By Pamela Parkes  Wednesday May 20, 2015

Music and dance came to Bristol harbour on Wednesday when St George’s put on a concert to celebrate raising millions towards its redevelopment appeal.

Violinist Thomas Gould played on the cascade steps and was accompanied by jitterbug dancers from Swing Dance Bristol.

St George’s launched the Building a Sound Future campaign earlier this year to redevelop the concert hall. It has raised £3.5m but still has some way to go.

“We still need to raise £2m,” says Suzanne Rolt, CEO of St George’s. “We have been appealing to all the people in the city who really love music and who love St George’s and they have got behind the campaign and shown they really love St George’s.”

Lending his support to the campaign is Thomas Gould from Aurora Orchestra and Man Overboard.

He said: “I love playing at St George’s…The acoustics of the hall are legendary, but it’s the warmth and attentiveness of the audience that makes playing here so special.”

If the remaining £2m is raised work will start on the project in 2016 and should be completed in the autumn of 2017.
