DJ builds a boombox on a Segway

By Martin Booth  Monday Oct 14, 2024

A DJ, artist and maker who has made boomboxes out of everything from vintage suitcases to wheelbarrows has “boomed” a Segway.

Leon Mook found the self-balancing vehicle for sale online and after making his ‘Mookway’ in collaboration with Otter Produces, he went for a ride around Stokes Croft.

Mook told Bristol24/7 that the project happened “for no real other reason than Bristol loves to see this kind of noisy creativity”.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Mook said: “When I saw this Segway on Facebook Marketplace, I knew I had a new challenge to get it boomed…

“From the moment we set up the Mookway as were calling it, people came and chatted to us and were amused.

“We spoke to a lovely old lady about radios for a good five minutes before she instructed us to fire it up.

“Stokes Croft was thankfully quite quiet so I could navigate but people were smiling, waving and laughing and giving us praise.

“We had a great time. Would recommend!”
