Palestinian film screening with Ken Loach
Ken Loach, Bath’s greatest living film director, returns to the city on March 4 for a screening of Palestinian director Leila Sansour‘s much-acclaimed documentary, Open Bethlehem. First shown locally at last December’s Bristol Palestine Film Festival, this charts Sansour’s return to Bethlehem to make a film about a year in the life of her home town. Instead, she finds herself drawn in to the international campaign to keep it open to the world, and her documentary spans seven eventful years.
It received a ringing endorsement from Jon Snow of C4 News: “One of the most remarkable and moving documentaries I have seen about this unreported story. The tragedy of the Palestinians encapsulated in the life of one family and one town – Bethlehem. See the film, then go to Bethlehem and see for yourself.”
Ken, whose most recent film was Jimmy’s Hall, will take part in a discussion after the screening. He’ll be joined by Leila Sansour and Glyn Secker from Jews for Justice for Palestine. The event takes place at Bath’s Chapel Arts Centre. For more information and to book tickets, go here.
