James Bond returns to cinemas (again)

By Robin Askew  Tuesday Apr 12, 2022

There’s always an excuse for bringing the franchise that keeps British cinema afloat back to the big screen. And since they keep making more films, those retrospectives just get longer and longer.

This time it’s the 60th anniversary of James Bond’s screen debut in the hairy-chested form of Ursula Andress-bothering Sean Connery.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

That’s right: 1962’s Dr. No launches the season, which brings each and every Bond flick (except the 1967 Casino Royale, obviously) back to cinemas in glorious 4K from April 15.

The budget stretched to only one pair of trousers – and Bond always got to wear them

They’re showing in chronological order, with a new one every week until No Time To Die arrives on September 30, permitting audiences to chart the character’s evolution from “sexist, misogynist dinosaur” who kills lots of people to today’s slightly more touchy-feely 007 who still kills lots of people.

The Bonds are back at the Vue and Odeon chains and the season culminates in what’s been dubbed Global Bond Day on October 5 (the actual release date of Dr. No back in 1962, fact fans) with as-yet-unspecified further celebrations.
