Dog-friendly cinema screenings return to the Little Theatre for Christmas

By Robin Askew  Monday Nov 15, 2021

Lockdown dogs, pedigree pooches, rescue hounds and mangy mongrels rejoice! Bath’s Little Theatre’s ever-popular dog-friendly screenings are back for the festive season. This year you can treat your beastly chum to the greatest of all Dickens adaptations: The Muppet Christmas Carol.

For the uninitiated, dog-friendly screenings have reduced capacity, the lights are kept slightly higher than usual and the soundtrack a little lower. Bowls of water are placed around the auditorium and everyone is issued with a fleece blanket for their canine companion to sit on to avoid sharing parasites and muddy paws with other patrons.

Alas, The Muppet Christmas Carol includes only a brief cameo by Rowlf, which means woke mutts may growl about shameful under-representation. But terriers will be overjoyed by the casting of Rizzo the rat in a leading role.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“I didn’t do that. Honest.”

The screening takes place at 11:15am on Sunday 12 December. Go here for tickets.

Those who’ve elected to massively increase their carbon footprints by making more humans rather than lavishing all their affection on a sock-chewing furball are not being neglected. This year’s kids’ Christmas special at the Little is a Polar Express pyjama party. Nippers are invited to dress up in their most festive PJs for this one and will collect a golden ticket on arrival at the cinema. It takes place on Saturday 18 December at 10:30am. Tickets price £3, can be bought here.

Traditionalists who crave monochrome heart-warmery and reassurance that the cinema has not completely gone to the dogs are served the inevitable annual screenings of It’s a Wonderful Life on Tuesday 21 and Thursday 23 December at 5:45pm, with accompanying mince pies, mulled wine and Christmas carols. Tickets for these events can be found here.
