Bristol Palestine Film Festival announces new event for February

By Robin Askew  Sunday Jan 9, 2022

At a time when many local cultural events are being cancelled or postponed, Bristol Palestine Film Festival is expanding. After a successful series of screenings in its usual December slot, BPFF has announced a new event at St George’s on Februaty 6.

The programme comprises three films exploring cultural resistance in Palestine. The main attraction is Liwan, which is billed as an uplifting story about the struggle to establish a cultural café in Nazareth promoting Palestinian culture and driving a rejuvenation of the old city.

This will be followed by a Q&A with director Doris Hakim, cafe co-founder Sally Azzam, and award-winning journalist Jonathan Cook.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Also on the bill is My Neighbourhood, which features the activist Mohammed El Kurd when he was just 11 years old. After losing half of their home to Israeli settlers in East Jerusalem, Mohammed’s family and other residents begin holding unarmed protests against the evictions. In a surprising turn, they are quickly joined by scores of Israelis who are horrified to see what is being done in their name.

The ticket price of £14 includes authentic grub in the form of the ultimate Middle Eastern wrap – falafel, salad and tahini. Go here for further information and to book.
