the itch returns for series three

By Lowie Trevena  Thursday Jul 18, 2019

Having already given a platform to local intimate performance, slam poetry and outstanding music, the itch is returning for another series.

A collaborative project between Rife Magazine and DVA Films, a local production company, the itch showcases some of the city’s best young talent. Series three will focus on local stand-up comics and lands on July 23, with a new episode released each week.

“We are kicking of the series with the brilliant Lily Konteh, who is currently a content creator at Rife,” says Bex Rose, online video editor at the publication. The series will also feature comics including Gurps Cheema, Jessie Nexon and Abi Clarke.

Rife, the local media platform for people aged 24 and under, worked with DVA Films, a local organisation. DVA Films staff that worked on the series include 20-year-olds Charlotte and Jacob, who are BFI Film Academy Bristol alumni.

The BFI Film Academy work with 16 to 19-year-olds to create develop filmmaking skills  and create short films, such as Proud To Be, which reported on LGBTQ+ homelessness in Bristol.

With seven comedians performing in the series, there will be a comic for everyone, with Bex saying: “It occasionally verges on the surreal, a little spicy and sometimes risqué.

“We’re really excited to be celebrating Bristol’s young comedy talent.”

Having focussed on music and performance in previous series, the itch has showcased talent including Tom Denbigh and Malaika Kegode, so expect the best of Bristol’s rising comics.
