New charity pop-up series pairs food and comedy to banish the winter blues
The new annual pop-up event series Side Dish is launching in Bristol on January 26, it has been announced.
It will take place across 11 days in multiple venues across the city’s flourishing food scene, including Pieminister, BANK, KASK², The Square Club, Renato’s and The Bristol Loaf.
Coming hot on the heels of the Bristol Comedy Festival, Side Dish offers a unique twist: every event will pair an evening meal with a ‘side’ of standup – the latter taking place at some stage during the evening.

Side Dish events will take place at multiple food and drink venues across Bristol city centre, from January 26-February 5
“Sometimes it happens before the meal, sometimes after, sometimes woven throughout”, organisers explain. “The unpredictability is part of the experience.”
The comedy performers will be kept secret, to be revealed on the night.
Side Dish is being delivered in association with the South West-based mental health charity SWEDA, which provides essential support to people directly affected by eating disorders, as well as their families.

For every ticket sold, a minimum of £5 will be donated to SWEDA projects across the region – ranging from one-to-one counselling to services for children and young people, support and guidance for families, and nutritional advice.
“Side Dish was created to turn a great night out into something that gives back,” says Dominic Mills, founder of Yuup, who are selling all the event tickets.
“By working closely with SWEDA, the series turns great nights out into meaningful support for organisations doing vital work locally – all while creating warm, shared experiences people look forward to each January.”
