The unexpected world of wildlife in an east Bristol park
An amateur photographer’s images offer a glimpse of the wild beauty and biodiversity that can be spotted in a Bristol park.
Daniel Callejo Rossi’s passion for photographing wildlife in urban parks began when he moved to Bristol over a decade ago.
“When I was walking and discovering the city, I found Eastville Park,” the 52-year-old says. “I didn’t have many friends in the city, so, for me, walking in nature gave me connection.”
is needed now More than ever
Rossi, who is originally from Argentina, says the park in east Bristol is teeming with “precious” birds and wildlife and hopes his work encourages people to care about their local environment.

An east Bristol park is full of under appreciated wildlife, says photographer Daniel Callejo Rossi
“For me, photography is meditation,” continues Rossi, who lives in Bishopston. “It takes me to a place of solitude and makes me forget about the world around me, despite the noise of cars.”
“I have always been into drawing and painting, so I enjoy creating an image.
“I am always surprised by what I can see in Eastville Park, from birds and butterflies to light and nature.”
Reflecting on being a photographer in Bristol compared to Argentina, he said: “I feel much more comfortable going out with my camera equipment here than in my own country.”
“The process remains the same, however: first, going out; then considering the light; and finally, capturing the moment.
“I do need to be careful of stepping on venomous snakes in Argentina, though.”
