Independent cafe group secures six-figure investment boost

By Milan Perera  Wednesday Sep 17, 2025

An independent cafe and hospitality business has secured a significant funding boost to expand its fast-growing outside catering division.

Double Puc has secured a six-figure funding package from the British Business Bank’s South West Investment Fund, delivered through FW Capital.

Founded in 2021 by Ed Brown and Griff Holland, the team behind former cafe chain Friska, Double Puc now runs five cafes across Bristol, including a standalone site at The Eye and partnerships with We The Curious, Wake the Tiger, OVO Energy and, most recently, the Crescent in Temple Quarter.

Double Puc’s outside catering arm serves a number of major “blue chip” firms in Bristol, and with demand on the rise, the business turned to funding to help fuel its fast growth.

Brown said the investment will help sustain the company’s ethos of delivering “sustainable hospitality to consumers and businesses across Bristol”.

He said: “Griff and I are well versed in the hospitality business and founded Double Puc with the same ethos as Friska – to deliver sustainable hospitality to consumers and businesses across Bristol. We’ve had lots going on recently with the launch of our fifth cafe at The Crescent.

“The outside catering side is also going from strength to strength and we were seeking working capital to support expansion and meet the demands of new business wins.

“We’re grateful for the backing from FW Capital and the South West Investment Fund. Ben Donati has worked closely with us and been very pragmatic in his approach, taking the time to understand our business and offer competitive terms that work for small businesses like ours.”

FW Capital’s Ben Donati said the finance will allow Double Puc to build on its growing reputation in outside catering, while the British Business Bank’s Lizzy Upton described the business as a strong example of the South West Investment Fund’s mission to back ambitious, sustainable enterprises in the region.
