Dial A Geek partners with local young people’s charity with laptop donations

By Bristol24/7  Monday Jun 3, 2024

Dial A Geek, a Bristol based Managed Service Provider (MSP), has been highlighting the need for responsible e-waste management and has identified the young people’s charity Digilocal as an ideal recipient for end-of-life tech.

“Digilocal provides an amazing service for young Bristolians,” says Gildas Jones, managing director of Dial A Geek. “The ethos is having good fun, but it’s hugely educational. We’ve loved getting a closer look at the good work they’ve been doing.”

Digilocal runs free technology clubs for young people, particularly those from underrepresented groups in the tech industry, but open to all. These clubs focus on developing problem solving skills that are crucial for many careers, especially in technology.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!

Recently, Dial A Geek has partnered with Digilocal, donating refurbished laptops produced through its end-of-life and device management programs for use in the charity’s technology clubs. Jones elaborates, “From a technology and sustainability standpoint, refurbishing and reusing is far better than recycling, which, as a B Corp, is very important to us at Dial A Geek. Also, somewhat selfishly from the tech industry’s point of view, these are the people we could be hiring one day.”

Digilocal also offers local businesses a way to demonstrate their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) principles. Many of the charity’s club-running volunteers come from the industry. The CSR volunteer “packages” make it easy for businesses to support Bristol communities.

With this partnership, Bristol businesses have a practical solution for their e-waste that benefits the community while promoting sustainability. For more information, businesses are encouraged to reach out to Digilocal or visit the industry page of their website.
