Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro return to the roles they played in the Oscar-nominated crime thriller, though director Denis Villeneuve is not involved in the sequel. Still, it seems to be in pretty safe hands, as incoming director Stefano Sollima‘s credits include such top-notch TV crime series as Romanzo Criminale and Gomorrah.
This time the duo are sent back to Mexico after it’s discovered that the drug cartels are smuggling jihadist terrorists across the border into the US. Alas, their attempt to incite a war between the cartels by kidnapping a drug lord’s daughter goes rather awry, driving a wedge between them.
