Fresh from Jigsaw, the Spierig twins (Michael and Peter) direct Helen Mirren in her first horror film role.
It’s one of those “inspired by true events” haunted house flicks in the Amityville Horror mould with Mirren playing Sarah Winchester, the wife of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester. Following his death in 1881, she inherits his vast estate but is advised by a medium that the family is cursed by the deceased victims of her late hubby’s weaponry. So naturally, she spends the next 38 years building a vast mansion to serve as an asylum for these vengeful spooks.
