Clevedon’s greatest living film director Niall Johnson follows his headline-grabbing true-life weepie Mum’s List with a left turn into western territory. Set in 1860 New Zealand, The Stolen tells the story of Charlotte Lockton (Alice Eve) who’s settled in the country’s south island with her husband David (Lukas Hinch) and their baby son. When the sprog is kidnapped, she sets out on a perilous journey to recover him, joining a convoy of ex-cons, prostitutes and Maori warriors heading for the rough mining community of Gold Town. The strong supporting cast includes Jack Davenport (Lancelot in the first Kingsman flick) and Richard O’Brien.
You have three choices of local screenings. The Orpheus one is an Ourscreen event, for which you can book tickets here. Niall will be pitching up in person at his local, Clevedon’s historic Curzon, for their screening on November 28. The film is also screening as a matinee at the Curzon on December 1.
