Man on Wire and The Theory of Everything director James Marsh taps in to the current fascination with sporting failure and fakery with the true-life tale of amateur sailor and hapless adventurer Donald Crowhurst (Colin Firth).
In a last-ditch attempt to save his ailing business, Crowhurst takes part in the 1968 Sunday Times Golden Globe Race – a non-stop, single-handed romp round the globe. But he gets into difficulty at an early stage and resorts to faking reports of his position to make it seem as though he’s completed a circumnavigation. Rachel Weisz plays Mrs. Crowhurst.
