Indie queen Greta Gerwig makes her directorial debut with this hugely acclaimed coming-of-age yarn with Saoirse Ronan on magnificent form as bright, precocious and rebellious 17-year-old Christine ‘Lady Bird’ McPherson, who yearns to flee suburban Sacramento.
Clearly, we’re in familiar territory here, but, inspired by her own experiences, Gerwig manages to put a fresh and insightful, stereotype-dodging spin on an increasingly worn-out genre.
