Running Time
85 mins

Bristol-based director Mark Kidel‘s fascinating and eye-opening documentary about the city’s most famous son launches this year’s Cary Grant Comes Home for the Weekend festival. As the title suggests, it explores his journey from Bristol boy Archibald Leach of Picton Street to Hollywood star Cary Grant, using words from his unpublished autobiography.

Among the film’s more fascinating revelations are Grant’s experiences with LSD as a psychiatric tool a full decade before the hippies gorged on it. Kidel’s film went down a treat at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. This screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the director and neuropsychopharmacologist Professor David Nutt, Cary Grant expert Mark Glancy and Stella Man from Glenside Hospital Museum.
