You may be forgiven for not knowing that Paul Verhoeven’s brilliant satirical reworking of Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers spawned a straight-to-DVD franchise. This is the fourth sequel and, like its predecessor, Starship Troopers: Invasion, it’s a feature-length animation.
Casper Van Dien, star of the original film, is still going strong as Johnny Rico (hey, he’s not been up to much else lately). Edward Neumeier, who wrote the screenplay for Verhoeven’s film, takes over as director. As the title suggests, this one has our heroes dispatched to the Red Planet to take on those pesky bugs.
