Small paintings by artist and RWA President Stewart Geddes. “Although these paintings are improvisations, and so emerge from semi-consciousness, somewhere along the way they are informed by the urban experience.”
“We’ve called the show Wine Gums and Rock from gallery owner Andy Phipps’ observation that the paintings appear to have a mix of naturalism and artifice. There is a landscape reference, yet there are aspects (of the colour particularly) that remind him of wine gums.
“I was delighted by that idea as a metaphor for Bristol as a demarcation between city and land and city and sea.”
