Kyle Sinckler called into Lions squad

By Martin Booth  Sunday Jun 6, 2021

British & Irish Lions head coach Warren Gatland hopes that Kyle Sinckler “continues to stick two fingers up to me about leaving him out in the first place”.

Bristol Bears prop Sinckler has now been called into the Lions squad for their tour to South Africa this summer following an injury to Andrew Porter.

The call-up comes less than a month after the 28-year-old was surprisingly left out of the initial squad and responded with a man-of-the-match performance and an emotional post-match interview which went viral.

Sinckler did not feature in Bristol’s win against Leicester on Saturday which confirmed a home semi-final in the battle for the Premiership title, but will be available for the Bears as the season reaches its conclusion.

“As always in rugby, when there’s an injury there’s an opportunity for someone else,” said Gatland.

“I have been very pleased to see the way Kyle has responded to initially being left out of the touring party.

“He’s showed some excellent form of late and I hope he continues to stick two fingers up to me about leaving him out in the first place.”
