Wins for City and Rovers in Women’s Football Weekend
Both Bristol City and Bristol Rovers played at home on Sunday as part of the annual Women’s Football Weekend, and both teams secured maximum points.
A record attendance of 3,053 fans watched City beat Blackburn Rovers 3-0 at Ashton Gate, while Rovers scored four without answer at Lockleaze Sports Centre against Weston-super-Mare.
Seventeen-year-old Lily Greenslade made her City debut having played several games for Rovers this season.
The aim of the Women’s Football Weekend is for fans to go and support their team whether that is a club in the top tier or further down the pyramid.
The Robins play in the Championship, the second tier of women’s football in England; while the Gas Girls, only in their third season as a reformed club as part of an award-winning initiative by Bristol Rovers Community Trust, play in the South West Regional Women’s Football League Northern Division.

At their home stadium of Lockleaze, Rovers captain Natty Coles scored her second in two games after coming back from injury, with second half goals from Zoe Fielden-Stewart, Poppy Warren and Kelly Cutler.
This latest victory continues the Gas Girls’ remarkable winning streak, which this year has seen them win nine league games out of nine.

Abi Harrison just can’t stop scoring at the moment for Bristol City and scored twice in her team’s 3-0 win against Blackburn.
In the first-half, she broke down the left and her cross-cum-shot took a wicked deflection into the net off Blackburn defender Helen Seed.
Aggie Beevor-Jones’ parried shot from Rovers keeper Alexandra Brooks fell perfectly into the path of Harrison for her second of the afternoon, while Beevor-Jones herself then got on the scoresheet with a sweetly struck shot from inside the box.
