‘Reaching 100 appearances for my hometown club is a dream come true’
Bristol Rovers defender Layah Douglas has thanked her family, teammates and staff after reaching the milestone of making a century of appearances for the Gas Girls.
“It’s an honour and a huge achievement to have made 100 appearances,” Douglas told Bristol24/7.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to play for this club and wear the badge with pride. Reaching 100 appearances for my hometown club is a dream come true.”

Bristol Rovers women’s team now form part of the setup at the club but were originally reformed in 2019 as an initiative of the Bristol Rovers Community Trust, who were recently nominated for a Bristol Legends award.
Rovers is the first senior club for 22-year-old Douglas, who is also a one-to-one football coach (following in the footsteps of her dad Chris who is Rovers’ assistant manager), and works as a claims and risk executive away from the football pitch.
Douglas said that her two best moments for the Gas Girls so far were winning the league to get the club to the National League and facing Women’s Super League side Aston Villa in the FA Cup last season.

She added: “I wouldn’t be where I am without all the staff and teammates I’ve had during my time at the club.
“The most important people to me is my family though. I have a great support network and they do everything for me behind the scenes.”
So what is there still to achieve for Douglas? “I have huge ambitions for Rovers. I would love to win the league again with them.
“The club is always striving for higher and that fits my mindset.”
