Gas Girls rue missed chances against Forest Green

By Martin Booth  Monday Sep 25, 2023

A wonder goal from Gas Girls captain Libby Bell was not enough to secure any points for Bristol Rovers Women’s at Forest Green Rovers.

Bell scored directly from a free kick towards the start of the second half to halve the deficit at the New Lawn, but despite sustained Rovers pressure the score finished 2-1 to Forest Green, who are now level on points with the Gas at the top of the SWWFL table.

Scarlett Mills would have expected to score one of her chances in the second half when she was one-on-one with the keeper, but she hit the post; with Laura Curnock also seeing one of her shots drift just wide.

“In the first half I think we showed our nerves but we really came into our own in the second half and I think we’re really unlucky not to come away with a point,” said Bell.

“But credit to Forest Green, they stuck the game out for the full 90 minutes. We just didn’t put away our chances today.”

Rovers manager Nathan Hallett-Young said that the game showed his team’s resilience and ability to create numerous chances.

He said: “It’s one of the ones that hurt, frustrating, we had a lot of missed chances that could have turned the game completely, we could have been out of sight with the amount of clear cut opportunities we had.

“But the main thing from that us that you’ve got to put those chances to bed. We didn’t and have got punished.”
