A Roundup of the 2024 Bristol IRISH Culture Fest

By Advertising Feature  Saturday Apr 20, 2024

There is one event that brings hordes of people to Bristol and that’s the Bristol IRISH Culture Fest. As a city in England, the importance of celebrating Irish culture within British walls is massively important. This is not only vital in order to spread awareness about the Irish culture amongst a wider audience, but also to show solidarity between England and Ireland, countries who have had their own interesting histories.

Critically Acclaimed Irish Music
One of the biggest things at the British IRISH Culture Fest is the music that is celebrated. It is such an interesting combination between Irish musicians and those local to Bristol. You see, the aim of creating the music that comes from Ireland is to pay homage to the sounds of the past, whilst also making it more modern to suit the new generations that visit the IRISH Culture Fest.

The line-up not only includes the sounds of professionals but allows others to engage too, such as the people visiting the fest. This is one of the most exciting parts of the festival as the people get to learn and practice on a live fiddle, tin whistle and bodhrán, which are all traditional instruments. The 2024 Bristol IRISH Culture Fest is more than just an event; it’s a lively exploration of Irish tradition, showcasing some popular games based in Ireland, as well as music, food and sports. This hand-one experience that the market visitors can engage with, provides an immersive and inclusive experience, that they might not find any place else.

Dancing is a Way of Life
Beyond music comes dance. Or perhaps not beyond but rather in combination, which again, is one of the most cherished pastimes that those visiting the IRISH Culture Fest look forward to. For those who are new to the dances that are typical to the people of Ireland, fret not, you can simply sign up for one of the many dancing sessions that are on offer at the festival. Many trained and talented instructors are especially there to teach people the moves of the Irish, which is sometimes hard to learn at first but gets easier as time goes by.

For those who are a bit too shy to visit a dancing session, you can simply sit on the sidelines and watch others dance to begin with. This will allow you to see how the dances are typically done and once you’ve watched enough, you will be able to complete the dances yourself.

Taste Ireland With Glee
What is a festival without delicious bites to eat? The IRISH Culture Fest offers a wide selection of traditional foods to choose from. Many stallholders come in the night before to ensure that the setup is as proper as possible, as there will be many mouths to feed. You can picture a whole bunch of small restaurants coming together to create the most delicious Irish meals to feast on. There are plenty of hearty stews, as well as cottage pie, coddle and Irish soda bread. All of which are staples in most people’s Irish households. If you’re lucky enough and you find the time to squeeze in a word or two with one of the chefs, you might even be graced with a few insider Irish cooking tips that you can take home with you in the hopes of re-creating some of the dishes.

Go and Visit
As you can see from the above, the IRISH Culture Fest is more than just a place in which people come to eat Irish cuisine and dance to Irish music but it is much rather a place in which the Irish culture is not only noticed but celebrated. It is a beautiful time for those who are Irish to feel a touch of home, whilst living in Bristol, while also being a place in which those from Bristol, who might not know an awful lot about the Irish culture, can get to learn. It’s a great occasion to immerse yourself in a new culture and learn a bit more about Ireland than you knew before
