My Bristol favourites: Suzanne Booth
Suzanne Booth is artistic director of Bristol Shakespeare Festival, which since 2004 has brought the freshest, most exciting productions of Shakespeare’s plays to some of Bristol’s most beautiful and unusual spaces every summer during the month of July.
Remaining events include The Winter’s Tale at Blaise Castle (July 26), The Tempest children’s workshop at the Southville Centre (July 28) and Twelfth Night on Brandon Hill bowling green (July 31).
Here are Suzanne’s top-five Bristol favourites:
The Rope Walk
“The Rope Walk has been under new ownership for the last 18 months, and Tristan and the team have turned it into an absolutely little gem. Fresh food, nice wine and beers, board games, a sun trap beer garden, and live music. It’s a great little spot for a quiet drink or a larger rendezvous. And it happens to be my local!”
The Milk Thistle
“There’s something thrilling about having to knock on an unknown door to gain entry into a secret cocktail bar. I am a fan of gin, and the gin-based cocktails at The Milk Thistle are out of this world.”
St Nick’s and the harbourside
“I love the bustle of St Nicks contrasted to the lazy boats bobbing in the harbour. When I first moved to Bristol I fell in love with the harbourside, especially sun-soaked spots by the Arnolfini. I still go there to de-stress!”
Souk Kitchen
“The. Best. Food. I always eat far too much at Souk Kitchen on North Street – their Turkish mezze plates are exquisite, and their presentation stunning. The casual atmosphere makes it one of my favourite places to eat with friends.”
Brandon Hill
“I absolutely love the view of Bristol from the top of Cabot Tower – you can see for miles. Plus, a walk to the top is my exercise for the day!”
