My Bristol Favourites: Sheika Johnston

By Martin Booth  Saturday Jun 28, 2025

Sheika Johnston is partnerships manager at Voscur, the support and development agency for Bristol’s voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.

Having first arrived in Bristol as a student, she now lives in St George with her family and joined Voscur following a previous career in multidisciplinary construction consultancies.

These are Sheika’s top-five Bristol favourites:

Troopers Hill

Troopers Hill is only a stone’s throw away from my house and one of the family’s favourites in all seasons. With incredible views of the city, I love to walk over for some peace and quiet or on Bonfire Night for a sociable wintery evening with friends. I’d argue it is best viewpoint in east Bristol!”

Redcatch Community Garden

“I thought I knew all the community gardens and farms Bristol has to offer but recently discovered Redcatch Community Garden in Knowle. Great coffee, great space, I particularly love the Friday night street food pop-ups offering world cuisine!”

The Star & Garter

The Star & Garter in Montpelier is where the after-after-party happens – in a space that isn’t much bigger than my front room. Give what you can afford on the door. This where I saw DJ Derek live for the first time!”

The Coronation Tap

The Cori in Clifton is one of my favourite drinking spots in the city with their Exhibition cider! Many a good night were had here.”

Caribbean Fix

Caribbean Fix offers both catering and takeaway – photo: Caribbean Fix

“Bristol isn’t short of Caribbean takeaway joints, but Caribbean Fix in Eastville is one of my favourite ones. Generous portions, great service, home catering for events if needed and fresh fruit juices offered on the menu too.”
