My Bristol Favourites: Lizzie Moss
Lizzie Moss is the founder and owner of Heron Books which recently moved from the Clifton Arcade into bigger premises on Regent Street in Clifton Village.
Lizzie was previously a classics teacher and a bookseller at Waterstones before opening Heron Books, which sells a beautifully curated range of fiction, non-fiction and children’s books now across two floors.
These are Lizzie’s top-five Bristol favourites:
is needed now More than ever
Little Chai, Princess Victoria Street

Little Chai promises “mouthwatering vegan Indian street food in a cosy, colourful setting” – photo: Seun Matiluko
“I love hole-in-the-wall type food places which do one or two things and do those exceptionally well. The samosas at Little Chai on Princess Victoria Street are absolutely delicious and I wake up thinking about their mango chutney. Can recommend for every meal and as a hangover cure should you ever need one.”
Dreadnought Books

“It won’t come as a surprise that I love all the bookshops. But I particularly love it here. It is impossible to leave Dreadnought Books on St George’s Road near the Jacob’s Wells Road roundabout without a stack of books. If you’re lucky, you also get to say hello to the cat.”
Reg the Veg

Don’t get in the way of Lizzie and the tomatoes for sale at Reg the Veg – photo: Lois Booth
“I love Reg the Veg in Clifton Village, specifically the tomato section. Tomatoes are the best food. I will defend this opinion to the death. Reg has the best tomatoes. Sometimes when the beef tomatoes are particularly ripe you can smell them from the other end of Boyce’s Avenue.”
Spirited

Come to the bar at Spirited for some seasonal cocktails, flights or a wee dram or two – photo: Spirited
“A cocktail bar that can make a good sazerac is exceptional. Spirited on North Street can do so. (After a few, you may need to pop to Little Chai for that curative samosa.)
The Stradling Collection

The Stradling Collection features 2,000 pieces of ceramics, glass, furniture and decorative objects designed for the home – photo: Barbara Evripidou
“The Stradling Collection on Park Row is a gallery of extraordinarily beautiful objects and they run fun workshops too. I’ve never seen chairs so beautiful; I presume life would be complete if one lived in such surroundings. It’s also near to two excellent food places: Sotiris Greek bakery and Flour House.”
