My Bristol Favourites: Amy Rose
Amy Rose is the curator of Undershed, Watershed’s gallery for immersive and interactive art.
Originally an artist and a documentary filmmaker, Amy also runs wild camps for children and is on the core team of Fire in the Mountain Festival in rural Wales.
These are Amy’s top-five Bristol favourites:
The Plough

“Definitely my favourite drinking den in Bristol. Every time any out-of-town friends come to stay and we end up at the Plough, they cannot believe their luck and wish they had a similar place in their neighbourhood. It’s such a friendly distinctive place – with a reliable dancefloor, great staff, delicious Sunday roasts and the ever-surprising outdoor area out back. Long live the Plough!”
Eastville Park

“Despite being a stone’s throw from the rumbling M32, when you get into the bowels of Eastville Park down beyond the lake there are some incredible wild nooks and crannies to hide in. I’ve had secret fires in the forest there in the middle of winter, run through it at all times of year and played hundreds of games of frisbee on the top field late into the bright summer evenings. Rumours of a community sauna landing somewhere near the basketball courts keep floating around too…”
Small Street Espresso

“Delicious coffee, run by lovely people. I eat toast here rather than at home far too often. Small Street Espresso is small and perfectly formed.”
The Jam Jar
“With an amazing lineup of musicians from all over the world, the Jam Jar is tucked away on the first floor of a warehouse in St Jude’s. It has strong roots in DIY culture, and is run by some great people who really care about community and music.”
Jeevan’s

People travel to Jeevan Sweets – better known as Jeevan’s – from miles around – photo: Martin Booth
“I haven’t got a sweet tooth so I go to Jeevan’s on Stapleton Road for the incredible samosas and the best paneer butter masala I’ve ever tasted. It’s run by an extremely friendly family and conveniently positioned about three minutes’ walk from my house.”
