The voice of Wallace has died
The actor who lent his voice to Wallace in the Wallace & Gromit animations has died at the age of 96.
Peter Sallis’ agents confirmed his passing on Monday saying he died “peacefully with his family by his side”.
Sallis also played Norman ‘Cleggy’ Clegg in sitcom Last Of The Summer Wine.
Wallace & Gromit creator Nick Park always wanted Wallace to sound like Sallis, and while still at the National Film and Television School, he asked Sallis if he could provide the voiceover for his student project.
To Park’s great surprise, Sallis said yes. With his death, there is now a question over whether Bristol’s famous plasticine duo will ever return.
