‘Thousands’ to attend Bristol Climate March
Thousands of people are expected to take to the streets this weekend for the Bristol Climate March.
The march takes place on Sunday, starting at Castle Park at midday and following a route around Broadmead before finishing on College Green.
Organisers said they expect the march to be bigger than last year’s event which drew in about 2,500 people.
This year’s Bristol march was supposed to be held at the same time as the Global Climate March in Paris, scheduled days before the start of the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference.
But the march has been cancelled due to heightened security in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks.
Protesters in Bristol will be encouraged to sing a song written especially for the Global Climate March, which they rehearsed on College Green last week.
“We are inviting everyone to take to the streets again to show that we are stronger and more numerous than ever before.” said Holly Templer, coordinator at the Bristol Climate March.
“Climate change is a difficult problem to engage with and it can make you feel helpless as an individual. We want to bring people together in solidarity with other cities around the world, to show that we all want the same thing: urgent action on climate change from our world leaders.”
