The search is on for Bristol’s most inspiring black and minority ethnic people

By Bristol24/7  Monday Jan 15, 2018

Bristol’s inaugural BME Powerlist aims to showcase Bristol’s most inspiring, successful and influential black and minority ethnic people.

Nominations are now open and will remain open until March, with up to 100 people featuring in the list that will appear as a special supplement within Bristol24/7 magazine.

The Bristol BME Powerlist is a collaboration between the University of Bristol, Bristol SU and Bristol24/7.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Chanté Joseph, University of Bristol student, BME network co-chair and founder of Bristol is the New Black, is one of the organisers of the project.

She said: “The social discourse around inclusion and diversity is changing; it has gone beyond the tokenism and moved into a space of structural reform and meaningful actions.

“This list is the latter, we will be recognising community leaders and influencers that have gone above and beyond to shape and serve the communities around them.

“This BME Powerlist is a way of creating hypervisibility for some of Bristol’s unsung BME heroes and giving them access to the university.

“I hope this list will be the start of a greater, mutually beneficial relationship between students and the community and will provide students with a wider support network of inspiring individuals and opportunities.”

Nominations can be completed online at www.bristolsu.org.uk/bmepowerlist
