The Big Lemon saves lifeline axed bus routes

By Betty Woolerton  Monday Oct 3, 2022

Four bus routes that were axed after the collapse of Bristol Community Transport (BCT) are being saved by The Big Lemon.

An operator which provides “affordable and environmentally-sustainable bus services”, The Big Lemon runs six local bus services in the Brighton area and local and national coach services.

From Monday, it runs the following services in Bristol:

  • 505: Long Ashton Park and Ride to Southmead
  • 506: Broadmead to Southmead
  • 515: Imperial Park to Stockwood
  • 516: Broad Walk to Hengrove Park

The Big Lemon will also pick up the Dial-a-Ride services previously operated by BCT.

Vital community bus services used by hundreds of vulnerable people in Bristol were axed in August when BCT stopped operating despite last-minute efforts to find alternative providers.

At the time, West of England metro mayor Dan Norris said “big question marks” hung over BCT’s dozen mainstream bus services.

“The Big Lemon is passionate about providing an excellent passenger experience on the buses and excited by the opportunity to launch in Bristol,” the Big Lemon website reads.

“Our drivers in Brighton are famous for the friendly and helpful service they provide, and we are really looking forward to bringing the same ethos to our services in Bristol.”
