Thames Lido in Reading opened by Bristol’s Lido team
The team from Bristol’s Lido have worked their magic to reopen a dilapidated lido in Reading that has been unused since the 1970s.
Similar to its elder sister in Clifton, the Thames Lido features al fresco swimming, dining and a spa within the restored 1902 Ladies Swimming Baths.
Whiteladies Road-based architects Marshall & Kendon – who also restored the Lido on Oakfield Place just a few hundred metres from their office – were employed to restore the Edwardian baths in Reading to their former glory.
Work began in 2014 with the abandoned building requiring substantial repair, with much of the existing roof timberwork and brickwork being damaged.
The Thames Lido in King’s Meadow park, within a short walking distance of Reading railway station, is now open seven days a week from 6am to 10pm. For more information, visit www.thameslido.com.
