St George’s director steps down after more than a decade
The chief executive of St George’s Bristol is stepping down from her position after almost 30 years at the venue.
Suzanne Rolt will be stepping down from her position in April 2021, with the chair and board of the venue seeking a replacement.
Rolt will take up the role of Chief Executive Officer at Quartet Community Foundation at a time when the grant-giving charity is awarding more grants than ever before.
Suzanne Rolt joins the charity with more than a decade of experience in leading a charity, having been in charge of St George’s Bristol as director and CEO since 2006.
“We’re sad to be saying goodbye to Suzanne, but immensely appreciative of what she’s achieved for the organisation,” says Ben Heald, chair of St George’s Bristol.
“The strength of St George’s reputation for creating unique and inspirational musical experiences for audiences and artists has everything to do with her tremendous programming, people and leadership skills.”
Working with 300 philanthropists and hundreds of donors each year, Rolt will lead Quartet Community Foundation in awarding around 1,000 grants per year. Since March 2020, it has awarded more than £2m in Covid-related grants to local charitable organisations across the South West.
“I’ve been privileged to have my dream job, running one of the country’s finest halls, meeting the world’s greatest musicians, and having the best seat in the house for thousands of brilliant and unforgettable concerts,” Suzanne says.
“Now I have an opportunity to direct my passion and experience towards leading Quartet, an organisation dedicated to improving people’s lives and bringing about positive change.
“It feels as if my heart is breaking but music remains my passion and I now get to find out so much more about, and to help, all the great community groups around the city.”
