Shorter waiting times for green man at Bristol crossings
Pedestrians now have less time to wait for the green man at stand‑alone push‑button pedestrian crossings.
There are 163 such crossings across Bristol with their own set of lights which are not linked to any other traffic signals.
Bristol City Council say that 53 of these have been switched to a ‘pre‑timed max’ setting which reduces the waiting time to “almost instant demand for pedestrians” when the button is pushed.

Chair of the transport & connectivity committee, Ed Plowden, said: “Making it quicker and easier for people to walk around Bristol is one of our key priorities.
“Reducing waiting times at crossings is a simple but important change that helps everyone – especially children walking to school – feel more confident when crossing the road.
“Small changes like this support healthier, safer journeys and should encourage more people to walk more often.”
