Resident doctors go back on strike
Resident doctors gathered outside the BRI on Tuesday morning at the start of another strike.
The six-day walkout will continue until Monday following a vote by doctors to reject the government’s latest pay offer.
Many car drivers passing the hospital beeped their horns in support of the doctors who were wearing orange British Medical Association (BMA) caps and vests.

“We have made abundantly clear throughout this dispute that our aim is pay restoration, and any deal that did not move us substantially in that direction was not going to fly,” said UK BMA resident doctors committee chair, Jack Fletcher.
“We also cannot ignore that, thanks to global events, economic indicators now point to years of greatly increased inflation.
“We are simply not going to put an offer to doctors that risks locking in further erosion of pay at a time when doctors continue to leave the UK for other countries.”
The current starting salary for resident doctors on a contract agreed in 2016 is £38,831.
