Prisoner arrested after fellow inmate dies at Bristol Prison

A prisoner has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a fellow inmate in Bristol.

Avon & Somerset Police have launched an investigation after a man in his 30s was reported dead by staff at HMP Bristol in Horfield at approximately 9.30am on Monday.

A post-mortem has preliminarily found that injuries to his neck have caused his death. His next of kin have been informed.

Detective inspector Nadine Partridge, senior investigating officer with the major crime investigation team, said: “A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a separate wounding with intent offence relating to a second male prisoner, who did not sustain serious injury.

“We can confirm the man we have arrested was also a prisoner at HMP Bristol. He is currently in police custody.”
