Police insist major drug crackdown is working

By Louis Emanuel  Wednesday Apr 6, 2016

Police have made further arrests following a major operation to clean up street-level drug dealing in St Paul’s and Easton.

Three people were arrested – two for drug offences – after intelligence was gathered by undercover officers.

Dozens of drug dealers were rounded up in a series of dawn raids carried out in October last year. More than 60 were sentences for a total of 185 years earlier this year.

Bristol24/7 published a full investigation this month into whether the crackdown had worked.

Police said on Wednesday that they were conscious of ”not taking our foot off the gas” in terms of keeping dealers off the streets.

Chris Green, Easton neighbourhood sergeant, said: “We know there will be people looking to step into the shoes of those who were sent to prison earlier in the year, and we will make sure they don’t undo all that good work.”

Police said that on April 4 a 36-year-old man from St Paul’s was arrested on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs after plain clothes officers spotted him approaching known drugs users near a children’s park.

A 29-year-old man from Easton was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis, alongside a 21-year-old woman who was wanted for breach of a court warrant.
