McDonald’s to appeal over Fishponds refusal
McDonald’s are to appeal the council’s decision to turn down a new restaurant on Fishponds Road.
Councillors refused the planning application for a 24-hour drive through on the site of The Old Tile Factory in February on the grounds of congestion.
But the fast food giant said it would appeal the decision, leaving the application in the hands of a planning inspector.
is needed now More than ever
“After careful consideration we can confirm we have decided to appeal the decision made at committee,” McDonald’s told The Week In.
“We believe opening a restaurant here will see positive investment in the area, create new jobs and demonstrate our long-term commitment to Bristol.”
Over 1,700 people signed a petition in opposition to the move last year, while more than 500 handed in written objections to the council.
Protest marches also took place, winning the support of local MP Kerry McCarthy.
Road safety, air quality, litter, noise, odour, and the health impact on young people were all raised in opposition to the chain.
McDonald’s claimed the restaurant would bring 65 new jobs to the area.
An application from Bristol burger chain The Burger Joint on Fishponds Road has been submitted to the council since and is currently being considered.
